Flamenco at 5:15

In 1983, director Cynthia Scott captured on film the passion and vibrancy of NBS’ flamenco classes. Taught by regular guest instructors from Spain, Susana and Antonio Robledo, these classes had been introduced into the curriculum in 1972. Scott’s film, Flamenco at 5:15, won the 1984 Oscar for Documentary (Short Subject), contributing to NBS’ growing international exposure and recognition. Watch the film below.

I will be forever grateful to have been taught by Susana and her husband Antonio. Their Spanish classes were some of my favorite memories from NBS as a student, where Susana’s beautiful spirit and inner fire infused me with an indelible love for dance.
